Present
Since June much has happened and I have wanted to remain present, though I failed to document myself some of these events and memories. Filled with shows with all kinds of music and books, along with their preparation.
Since my last post, I narrated the follow-up to the Terminal Gene, titled Echoes of the Gene, which has likewise been receiving great reviews! I am thrilled to provide (alongside Scott Fleming) a “cinematic feel” as one person mentioned. I also wrapped up narrations of both the Iliad and the Odyssey by Homer, yet another modern translation, and quite graphic. The Odyssey film, after reflecting, did compress as much as can be expected in the realm of realism.
Summer
I’ve also been fortunate to spend a lot of time making music with people I care about. July had our annual Broken Goblet Anniversary – this year we did a hip hop set, and I was on bass – it was especially memorable for me, as we got to share the stage with Chuck Treese of McRad and Bad Brains. Who would’ve thought?! We did Rage Against the Machine’s rendition of How I Could Just Kill a Man by Cypress Hill. Just heard it was in our set and hopped up and did it with us!
There have been several other performances, including “Solstisonic” in Hopewell with Greg McGarvey in June, a wonderful backyard celebration of Summer Solstice. There was my friend Erin Fox’s album release for UPROOTING – including “my harp debut” – I tell you, this has been a couple years of NEW experiences for me. I am so appreciative to have this opportunity to play other instruments, and explore other sounds.
On that note, of course, I’ve been continuing work on Moments, my upcoming album and residency project. Yes, “we” have titled it, as I wanted to be fully present and allow the land and bees to inspire me, I realized this was more about the moments I wanted to catch – like the flight of the bee.
October brings…
There have been fewer updates here because I’ve been trying to give my attention to the actual work. The books I was narrating, the performances I was preparing for, the people I was playing music with, and the projects that mattered in front of me. I’m not the best with updating my social media, and this summer has been especially busy – I’ve been wanting to be especially present. I realize this may mean I don’t share as much, but I guess that just means… you’ll have to be there.
SO! Come out for the next two things, two of my FAVORITE musical projects… Mischief night, we are tributing the great and unmatched TYPE O NEGATIVE as UNHOLY WATER once more, with our friends the Jasons! 2026 is the 30th anniversary of October Rust, one of my favorite albums of all time. Peter is also the REASON I wanted double cabinets so much… so you better believe we’re rollin’ um in! I suppose my age and lack of transportation resulted in me only seeing them once. But, like Mark Douglas’s book, I hope to replicate or closely match those patterns that Peter once boomed through double Mesa Boogies. … Did you know, apparently the patterns on Buddhist temples are the result of the patterns the sand made on discs? So if you “om” and match the pattern, you knew you were replicating the same sound of those who came before and resonated.
So that will be mischief night 10/30/26 at Broken Goblet, celebrating 30 years of October Rust.
THEN… Halloween 2026, I am pleased to debut our new band, TRAUMA RESPONSE. We’ll be playing at the Gem in Spring City. A new power trio with Erin Fox, Katie Fox, and myself. Being Resilient didn’t work out, so now we’re in TRAUMA RESPONSE. New songs, new attitude, new hair even, since the last time.
Okay – back to the box.
