So excited to share this fantasy tale Witterkin by WK Greyling with you, though it’s more than “just” a fantasy book. It really made me reflect on my own introverted tendencies, people’s general perception, and some other tender topics that we tend to ignore or avoid discussing. It is a story about finding oneself, building confidence and trust, and about following your heart, which can be a VERY tricky road, but a rewarding one.
I am grateful for all the great reviews we’ve gotten! One of my favorite things is developing character voices. I enjoyed working with Greyling to develop the characters; the book itself shares a piece of the character. After a few rounds of discussing the important character traits and attitudes, we were able to come up with some really fun and lively voices for our cast.
To prepare for this book, I did a deep dive into some of my own favorite cinematic fantasy tales, like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, as well as classics like the Labyrinth with our beloved Bowie, and Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth. I always like to pull inspiration from a variety of sources, and try to put myself into the setting of the book itself. So, for this one, I set up my little collection of highlighters, pens and tea next to my hammock, and listened to Greyling’s own curated online radio station AncientFM while reading Witterkin. I hope you enjoy my interpretation of W.K. Greyling’s fantasy adventure. If you would like to take a listen, I still have a few codes left I can share.
